Trip Reports

The Skagit River is one of the best places to view eagles in Washington.

OutVentures returned to Rockport on Saturday, February 10 for a guided nature walk by the Bald Eagle Interpretive Center at 11:00 AM, Overcast or cloudy days are perfect for viewing eagles. This is a great opportunity to watch these iconic raptors in their environment.

Four OutVenturers were among the Steelhead fishing enthusiasts, RV campers and nature lovers that converged on Howard Miller Steelhead Park Saturday. Dry weather and partly sunny skies prevailed so the walk along the Skagit River, through the wetland and into the forest was thoroughly enjoyable.

The nature walks led by the volunteers and staff at the Skagit River Eagle Interpretive Center are both enjoyable and informative. This past Saturday was another demonstration of their knowledge and dedication. Though no bald eagles were seen within the park, some were sighted en route and farther east of Rockport. Our guide shared much about the ecosystem of the Skagit River and the necessary and interrelational habitat for the diverse species of the watershed.

Following our tour of the ecosystem, we gathered at the Rockport Bar & Grill for lunch and sharing our experiences and impressions before departing. Whether bald eagles, salmon or even moles, we all came away from the day with greater appreciation of the place of each in our environment.
